So you may or may not have heard about the great benefits of using fresh lemons in your beauty regime. That’s right! Not only can you eat these bitter tasting beauties, you can also add them to your bathroom cabinet to step your skincare game up a notch. Here is our top 5 tips to introduce a little lemon love in your life.
1. Even out your skintone
Do you suffer from dark spots on your face or some form of scarring whether from acne or something else? Fear not, the natural citrus acid in lemons has been scientifically proven to reduce the signs of scars and dark spots on the skin. (Yes, science said so!) It also contains plenty of essential vitamins and skin-loving goodness which can penetrate the skin faster and leave us with that healthy glow!
2. Get rid of yellow nails from staining
Forget to use a base coat under that dark coloured nail polish? We’ve all done it! Dark shades of nail polish like purple, red or black can lead to yellow staining on the nail. Not only is it stubborn to remove, it also looks pretty horrible. If you leave your nails to soak in a small bowl of freshly squeezed lemon juice for a few minutes, you will soon see the benefits. Simply grab your nail buffer straight afterwards and buff away the stain. Magic!
3. Fix those dry elbows
We know that lemons are a great exfoliator for the face, so why not use it to fix those rough looking dry elbows too. Mix some baking sofa and some fresh lemon juice together until it resembles a grainy texture-like paste. Apply to the areas of your elbows that need a little helping hand and scrub away until you reveal your new baby soft skin. Your elbows will be forever grateful.
4. Homemade lip scrub
If you have a big night out coming up then you will want to try this! In a small bowl mix some sugar and lemon juice together until you have a thick consistency (if you need to, add more sugar). Apply liberally to your lips using your finger in a circular motion or apply with an old toothbrush for a better effect. Rinse off with warm water and Voila, kissable lips enviable by Angelina Jolie herself. Any leftover mixture can be transferred to a container and stored in the fridge for about 1 week.
5. DIY teeth whitening
Want to remove staining on your teeth from drinking tea and coffee or red wine? Use this quick and handy tip twice a week after brushing. Combine some baking powder and lemon juice together until it looks like a paste. Place a small amount onto your tooth brush and scrub for 1 minute. Rinse and your good to go. Easy!
