1. Eating chocolate and fatty foods causes acne FALSE
While over-indulging on a diet rich in high fats and sugar can cause skin to flare up, little or no evidence has been found that chocolate and crisps alone contribute to problematic skin. The verdict, eating them in moderation isn’t going to break you out.
2. Over plucking your brows can cause them to not grow back TRUE
Constant use of the good ole’ tweezers on your eyebrows will cause damage to the hair follicle over-time. This damage results in little or no regrowth of hair, therefore leading to over-plucked, sparse brows.
3. Using hot steam will open the pores FALSE
No, your pores are not automatic doors. There is no truth in the rumour that your pores can be ‘opened’ or ‘closed’ with the help of hot steam. Although the use of hot steam can be helpful in softening the skin to make cleansing your face a whole lot easier. The steam will simply soften any dirt and grease within your pore!
4. Rinsing your hair with cold water after washing can help make hair look shiny TRUE
So you’ve shampooed and conditioned and your just about finished washing your hair, take a second to blast your hair with some cold water before turning off the tap. This will help to seal in the moisture and aid in giving you that fabulous glossy-looking hair.
5. Split ends can be repaired FALSE
Unfortunately, no amount of ‘split end repair conditioner’ will help to rescue those damaged ends. The only thing that will actually work to save/rid those dreaded dead ends, is infact a 6 weekly trip to your local hairdressers for a trim.
6. Shaving makes your hair grow back thicker FALSE
This is one myth that I really believed was true. In actual fact, your hair will always remain the same thickness and length as made up in your genes. Shaving the hair does not make it grow back thicker and faster, it simply cuts the hair off at it’s thickest part leading us to believe our hair has grown back thicker than before due to its blunt feel.
7. 8 hours of sleep a night can help you lose weight TRUE
Losing weight in your sleep? Surely not! It is infact true that a solid 8 hours or more of sleep per night, can aid in maintaining a steady metabolism, therefore helping to burn those calories quicker the next day. Stress and lack of sleep can also contribute to hormone imbalances, which in turn triggers over-eating.
8. Toothpaste can help to heal a spot TRUE
This is a risky one, but very effective if it works for you. Obstructing the skin and pores is never a good idea in any case, but some toothpastes containing Menthol have been know to reduce swelling and redness due to its cooling properties.
