I recently picked up the new Infallible 24hr-Matte foundation from L’Oreal Paris as I have been on the hunt for a good long lasting foundation from the drugstore which doesn’t look cakey or oxidise on the skin. I hadn’t read any reviews on the foundation before I made my purchase so I guess I didn’t really know what to expect.
First impressions of the packaging were great. I love the sleek tube design as opposed to a glass bottle which most foundations come in. The applicator tip on the tube is also super handy for mess-free precision application and will be great for getting as much product out as possible once I start reaching the end. You do get a generous 35ml of product in this so a little more than the regular 30ml which is standard for a lot of other foundations.
I would like to stress at this point in the review that this foundation is NOT for those with dry skin. I have combination skin which usually consists of an oily t-zone area and quite dry cheeks and forehead but for some reason lately I have been getting dry patches around the sides of my nose and on my forehead. This foundation clung to every dry patch on my face. It looked awful! I did however solve this by moisturising way more than I would usually need to beforehand, apply a primer and then apply the foundation. However, this seemed to make my face slightly more oily than usual so I needed to powder a good bit during the day.
Coverage is described on the packaging as being ‘high’ however, I would say this is a medium but buildable coverage foundation. It covered all my problem areas in just one layer so definitely a win if you suffer from some redness and the odd blemish. If you have scarring or acne I’m not quite sure how well it would cover them on it’s own, you would probably also need to conceal. The finish of the foundation is definitely a matte finish. I would usually add some highlighter to my cheekbones after powdering for a slight glow. With regards to this foundation keeping your skin looking matte all day, this was not the case for me. I had to powder quite a good few times to keep my shine at bay over the course of 12 hours or so.
It is definitely a good long wearing foundation, which seems to hold up quite well under heat, rain, sweat etc. However, it does not last 24hrs as it claims to do – who on earth would want to wear their foundation for that amount of time anyway? All in all, I wasn’t overly impressed by the L’Oreal Infallible 24hr matte foundation after expecting really good things from it. Yes it has good buildable coverage and seems to last quite well throughout the day but it’s also not great for those of us with dry skin. It’s priced at around €12.29 in Boots at the moment which isn’t too bad, but for what it does I think you can get similar foundations from other brands for less.
