Eczema – a skin condition I have battled with since early childhood. It started out all over my scalp as a baby and continues to flare up really bad on my arms and legs even now in my mid-twenties. Almost 1 in 12 adults are estimated to suffer from eczema – or Dermatitis which it is sometimes more commonly known.

I have tried and tested many products over the years claiming to help with the inflammation and itchy patches, none of which seemed to work exceptionally well. I have used most of the popular creams and emollients; Silcocks Base, E45, Oilatum, Vaseline – although I still haven’t resorted to steroid creams like Hydrocortisone because I want to try and stick to something as natural as I can.

I picked up a cream from my local chemist called Aveeno – a simple daily moisturising lotion. I hadn’t heard anything about the brand nor was it really advertised as a product to battle eczema but I’m always open for trying something new. I purchased the lotion which came lightly scented with ‘lavender aroma’. I’m usually quite dubious of products that are scented in any-way, as those of you who suffer from eczema will know of the struggle we have with perfumed goods. The cream itself contains finely-milled active Oatmeal which is known for both it’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It is also ideal to be used on sensitive skin, which is great for people with eczema because our skin is so delicate.

I used the cream on a daily basis after showering all over my body to combat any dry areas and I paid extra attention to the areas where I was experiencing a really bad flare up. The relief from itching was almost immediate. After about 2 weeks of frequent use I noticed such a difference in the overall texture of my skin, even seeing a significant reduction in redness where my eczema was. I have never before used a product where I saw such a dramatic change in my skins condition in such a short space of time!

Constant use of this lotion for about 5-6 weeks saw my eczema completely disappear. To say I was ecstatic is an understatement! It had been so long since I had completely flawless skin on my arms.

To celebrate, I put on a short sleeved t-shirt and went on a major twitter rant to express my love for Aveeno!
This lotion is now a major staple in my beauty routine and I would weep for days if they ever take it off the market. I have been meaning to write up this post for quite a while now because I wanted to share my experience and let eczema sufferers everywhere know what a wonder product it is.

I purchased this lotion from McCabes Pharmacy at a sale price of just €3.65 but it usually retails for no more than €6. If you have any questions about my experience using this cream or about eczema or dermatitis in general, please feel free to contact me for advise and I would be happy to help. Thanks for reading!

All my love,
